"When I think about the Morrison Visa now, I think about the opportunities it created and the lives that were changed"

I received my Morrison Visa in 1992 and I have made my life here ever since. Today, I am a United States citizen.

Before coming to America, I started working immediately after completing my Leaving Certificate in 1987. I worked for a small company in Ireland, but there were no real prospects of moving up. Unemployment was very high at the time, and having any kind of job meant you were considered lucky.

My older sister had moved to the United States in 1985. She was doing really well and enjoying her life here. Seeing the opportunities she had found made both me and another of my older sisters want to experience life in America for ourselves.

I have many memories from those early years, but what stands out most is the sense of possibility. It was a wonderful feeling to pay my bills and still have money left over. For the first time, I felt that if I put my mind to something, I had the opportunity to achieve it.

“America really did feel like the land of opportunity to me, and it still does.”

The Morrison Visa helped me overcome one of the biggest challenges I faced by giving me the opportunity to build my life in the United States.

Moving to America changed my life completely. It gave me access to opportunities that did not cost a fortune and allowed me to pursue things that had once seemed much harder to achieve.

I am particularly proud that I went to college. Coming from a situation where I had started working immediately after school, with few opportunities to progress, being able to continue my education was a significant achievement for me.

I am also proud that I now own my own home. These are things that became possible because of the opportunities I found in the United States.

“The Morrison Visa changed my life. It provided opportunities to so many people who simply would not have had them otherwise.”

For me, it meant being able to live in the United States, pursue an education, own my own home and ultimately become a United States citizen.

When I think about the Morrison Visa now, I think about the opportunities it created and the lives that were changed because of it. I am one of those people.

It was absolutely worth it.
