The History

“Immigration is not charity. We didn't award the visas for the good of the Irish. We did it for the good of America” former Congressman, Bruce Morrison.

Thirty years ago, the Morrison Visa Program forever transformed lives and the United States. It was the dream and the chance of a lifetime.

Under the Immigration Act of 1990, 55,000 visas were allocated annually for three years from countries underrepresented in US immigration.

Forty percent (16,000 per year) were designated for Irish immigrants. These immigrants who came between 1992 and 1995 were young and ambitious, ready to start a new life of opportunity.

Thirty years later, these immigrants have contributed to business, education, and the arts, contributed to the United States, and built ties back to Ireland. This is their story.
